Two more major projects completed!

I'm a man possessed! Exactly what I'm possessed or and/or by is debatable, however the consequences are undeniable. Today I've completed another TWO major long term projects.

First up is my 8,000 point Epic 40K Squat army. These wee 6mm scale "space dwarfs" have been a labour or love (and not inconsiderable expense) and now they are DONE. Well, there's still a bit of basing to do but that's on hold until I can order a metric tonne of tufts. Here they are in all their red and white glory...

Secondly, with the completion of these three Space Marine Landspeeders I've also wrapped up another of my long running 40K projects...

All up this army tops out at something like 4,300 points using 5th edition (which we refuse to give up!). The purists will note that the weapon load-outs for the speeders are non-standard. That's simply because I had a missile launcher and a pair of autocannons leftover from my Catachan Sentinels and wasn't willing to shell out a lot of shekels for extra bits when these look the business anyway.

So, now I need to decide which of my major projects to clobber next. But first, a nap and the Sunday arvo pie/footy combo. Bliss!

Space Marine Landraider Repairs & Repaint Complete

This little number has been a long time in the works and thankfully is now complete. It's a Landraider Crusader for my DIY Space Marine chapter, the "Angelicus Mechanicus".

I picked it up cheap at CANCON in January and have been working on it on and off ever since. As 2016 is officially the Year of Finishing Shit Projects at Chez Millsy I ploughed on with it and can now cross it off my to do list. [insert Woot! here]

Overall given there was a reasonable amount of repair work to do I'm pretty happy with the outcome. At various stages in it's life prior to arriving in my tender clutches it has been painted blue (presumably Ultramarines), red (presumably Blood Angels) and finally green (presumably Dark Angels). Quite a life and testament to the rigorous engineering principles of the Imperium's workshops...

I'm pretty close to "finishing" this project now too. I've got three Landspeeders on the desk at the moment in various stages of construction which will complete all the vehicles I want. There's a few odd figs to do as well but they're "just because I can" type of things so will likely get put away for a while at least.

Paint Table Saturday

Hello All!

Time for another instalment of Paint Table Saturday. I'm well and truly back in the painting groove at the moment, working on both my own material and the beginnings of a large 40K Space Marine commission for a mate.

First up is a batch of tactical marines for a Dark Angels force I've been commissioned to paint. These are the snap-fit models from the Dark Vengenace box set and to be fair they are pretty good models for the price. The detail is a little soft of the shoulder pads but a little careful knife work and layered painting and it comes up OK.

The other half of the post this week goes to the VBCW's own Sid and Nancy comedy act, Eddie VIII and Wallis Simpson. These were giveaway figures at Partizan a few years ago and I'd wanted them since I first saw them. I asked a chap on the old GWP forums if he knew where I could buy a set and he very kindly sent me a set and refused any monetary recompense whatsoever, even for postage. I really can't say enough about the generosity of our little part of the interwebs at times...  I liked the tie so much on the link above I nicked the colour scheme for mine.

Painting Challenge Update

The brush is still flying about at a fair pace here at Millsy Towers and it's time for another Painting Challenge update. My last batch of submissions included some more 28mm ECW and a further addition to my 40K Space Marines.

First up some generic Scots pike that can be used for either side...

I'd never painted plaid before but after a few attempts I got something I'm pretty happy with.

Next up was some mounted dragoons, Aston's to be precise...

On the 40K side of things I finished a small squad of Veterans with close combat weapons...

This was backed up by some heavy armoured support (at last!) in the form of a Predator Annihilator to help deal with the bigger nasties out there.

That lot took me past my previous highest point total for a Challenge and there's plenty of time left yet. I'll breach the 2000 point mark this week with the remaining Scots (shotte) and some other bits and bobs.

Before I go there's just time to welcome Just John, Bruce Sutton, Martin Cooke, Carlo Pagano, David F and Foss1066 who have all joined us recently. Great to have you aboard folks!

Space Marine Terminators

These have been a long time coming. I assembled them last year (or was that the year before?) and since then they've been sitting in a box, patiently biding their time. After Russ wiped the floor with me using his birthday Orks a couple of weeks back it became quite clear that their time had come. Cometh the ass towelling, cometh the man in silly power armour apparently...

First up is a unit of five Assault Terminators with a mix of weapons. As my divergent chapter is half Dark Angels and half Blood Angels I decided these chaps should be sort of Deathwing-esque. I'm fairly chuffed with the colour scheme on these ones. It was a bit hit and miss whilst in progress but they came out well in the end.

And secondly a unit of common garden variety Terminators in Blood Angel colours...

Lastly here's a close up of the two commanders...

In total this gives me three units of five so I can switch them about depending on opponent, game size and scenario.

Next up, some more Tac Marines, transports and some heavy support.

Paint Table Saturday

Reinforcements for my divergent Space Marines chapter are taking shape. I've got a Predator Annihilator, second Razorback and two five-man Terminator squads on the go. All this should nicely top up my ability to handle more armoured forces and put me on the front foot once more.

As you can see everything is assembled and customised with extra cog-styled wibblies on the tanks. Almost all the undercoating is complete and the painting proper can now start. In the background you can see some existing troops that I've got handy to ensure I get my colours matched correctly.

Welcome Paul Waechter who has joined us since I last posted. Hopefully you find plenty of interest hereabouts mate.

More Assault Marines for 40K

Just a quickie today...

This is another addition to my 40K space marines, in this case a squad of five metal body assault marines. The sergeant had a power fist but I cut that off with my shiny new Dremel and gave him a power sword instead.  The idea is that I by removing the power fist he can be busted down to private as required. That way I can field these as a squad of five or merge them with my other squad of five for a super-sized ten man assault machine.

Bonus Round - Angelicus Mechanicus Command Squad

This is my entry for the Heroes bonus round on Curt's painting challenge - a complete command squad for my growing 40K divergent Space Marine chapter. Don't forget to head over and vote for your favourite entries.

The squad includes a Commander, Librarian, Techmarine, Apothecary, Standard Bearer and Veteran Sergeant. They are all the older style metal models with plastic arms, weapons and jet packs as required. I've given some of the lower ranked marines non-standard jet packs to represent the mechanicus theme.

The banner is bespoke, made using iconography from the web. As it's a divergent chapter GW have never produced anything official so I made my own in Photoshop. It shows the Adeptus Mechanicus skull crest, surmounted by the dual Dark Angel / Blood Angel chapter icons, above the Legio Mechanicus name.
The black side stripes have a low key text pattern, repeating the Legio Mechanicus name over and over for a little extra interest. All the icons are of course copyright GW.

The setting is my "bug planet" terrain, made from corks, ecalyptus gum nuts and other bits and pieces.
Just the kind of place you'd find a nasty xeno threat that needs to be expunged.

I've been holding off on painting these as I knew they would take a LOT of work. I also wanted to make sure I gave them the best finish possible so I didn't attempt them till I had the colours and force theme down to a fine art. I'm pretty happy with them overall.
