The Old World Army Challenge

Not being a "Facebook person" I sometimes miss stuff that other folks see. The Old World Army Challenge is a perfect example of one of those things. I'd have been gutted to miss out once I realised what was going on. Fortunately the organisers (some of whom are fellow AHPC participants) were kind enough to allow me on board regardless of my lack of social media skillz. Cool huh?

Like Curt's wonderful AHPC, the Old World Army Challenge is a non-competitive style event intended to motivate the participants and to provide a platform for sharing and praising one another's work. That's the very essence of Oldhammer for me, an engaging, positive group of like-minded people having a blast together. Couldn't say no to that...

So I'm going to use this as an opportunity to kick-start my stalled Empire army. I'm rather excited to be planning and painting something that doesn't involve anything to do with Peking to be honest!

Oh yeah, and while I'm doing this I'll also be doing the AHPC for the sixth time, assuming Curt still loves me now I'm seeing someone else on the side. :-)

Peking - Russian Legation Build Complete!

So that's another legation compound build complete with the painting and basing of the Russian Legation finished up today. You can see part one of the build here...

I went ahead and added a bunch more details on this build right from the start as I mentioned last post. I'm glad I did and I'm really pleased with the overall finished building.

Google Translate provided the text for "Russian Embassy" in a suitable font.

A Russian period style flag flies over the door which is flanked by some flower pots with blooms.

The moon gate gives entry to the courtyard which will alternately have trees and flowers or firing steps included. Paving leads from the front gate to both the main building and the courtyard.

Like the British Legation the first floor is removable.

Next up? A couple of bridges and the canal I think. Once that's done it might be time for some progress shots of all the existing terrain set out together.

Peking - The Russian Legation

Plowing on with the build of the legations for my 55 Days at Peking project, I have now finished (more or less) the build of the Russian Legation. Somewhat smaller than the British Legation, the overall footprint is something like 15" x 12".

I felt I didn't put enough effort into the British Legation from an overall detail point of view. That was party because I can fill the interior with scatter terrain, but partly I just wasn't sure how much to add. I'll go back and correct that later on but in the case of the build I went ahead and added more detail right off the bat including a moon gate and different roof profile. As before the first floor is optional.

Anyway, enough words, time to let the pictures do the talking...

The painting will commence shortly. I'm going with a green roof and ornamentation to reflect the Russian ownership. I'll also do the walls in two colours, a dark colour up to the divider and the whitewash above. Stay tuned!
