Sons of Death WIP, or With A Little Kelp From My Friends

Although it's getting to be a busy time as we approach the festive season, I have found a little time to paint up some more of the Sons of Death for SAGA.

The kelp seashore basing I started last week has turned out quite nicely; I began with a base coat in a dull earthen brown, inked in dark brown. When that dried, I highlighted the raised surfaces and edges in a light tan, and gave the fronds a glaze of green ink to finish. The rocks were finished in a light tone to duplicate the weathered surfaces found on the storm-wracked shores of the grey northern seas...

Don't try and get poetic, Ev, stick to painting.

I'm quite happy with that, so I'll carry the basing scheme over to the remaining seven figs in the unit. I'm working my way towards completion, slowly but surely! Here are the three figures which are closest to their finished state.

YEAARRGGGHHH!! Stubbed my bloody toe!!!

(Grumpy SoD...)

"Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera..."

A few finishing touches yet to be done, but I think that they'll turn out OK (fingers crossed!).

Don't forget that the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge kicks off on 5 December; the blogosphere's finest brushmeisters, figlimners, modeltintists and pigmentophorists will be competing for the approbation of their fellows by painting up a storm over the following three months.

C&G's own Millsy has thrown his hat into the ring, and we are in no doubt that he will acquit himself honourably, so stay tuned!

    1. Thanks, maximex - I can't claim credit for that though! That's one of the Little Big Men Studios' shield transfers, like I've used on the rest of my SAGA warbands. They do excellent work!

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Michael!

Unfortunately, the pre-Yuletide social commitments are piling up, and there aren't enough days in a weekend!

I think I'll take a look over at Warbases and see what they have for a unit base; the seashore theme could be extended to good effect!

    1. Thanks Robert but they're not mine. They're the work of my good mate and fellow blogger Ev.

    2. Given the fact that 99% of the figs on the blog are Millsy's, that's entirely understandable!

  8. Great work, Evan! All your work on the basing has paid out handsomely.

"Honey, I'm having some friends over for dinner tonight."
    "Oh. Who is coming?"
"Some fellows called the Sons of Death, I think."

Thanks, Monty, I hope to have the entire unit painted, based, and ready for the tabletop before too long!
